Granny

Granny

"Granny" is the nickname we have given to the oldest machine in the factory.

Granny is an Eighteen Spindle Reducer.

In this photo you can see bobbins on top of the machine. Those bobbins came from the bottom of the previous machine, the draw box.

The bobbins each hold a slubbing.
Two slubbings are being fed through each roller. They will be drafted and twisted to form the next type of yarn, which is called a roving.

Granny reduces two slubbings to make a roving.
The roving goes on to the next machine.

The next process is spinning.
