Colyford Concert

It was a was a very enjoyable experience giving a concert at Colyford Memorial Hall, Devon, in November. The event was very well organised (sandwiches & cake were excellent) and the audience listened intently to our music.

Charlie recorded the concert in stereo, then it was back to the studio to select and master a few of the tracks to make this album.

You can stream tracks from the album or you can download them free.

High-tech Slidings, track 8, is a free jazz composition by Charlie. The score, in red below, is in the form or a poem. The poem gives fairly precise instructions to the performer whilst leaving a lot of freedom of choice.

On this recording the audience kindly helps us out by adding the sounds of their favourite animals in section 5).
Animal sounds begin at about 1:48 on the track.

Hi-tech slidings
Free jazz in seven overlapping segue sections

1) low languid laborious quiet quirky trills
later trills are much wider

2) curtailed ascending scalic snippets
eventually accelerating
extending
looping and conglomerating.
always pianissimo with a late crescendo

3) running around high up in various pairs
don't go mad to start with

4) a loud low monotone [concert E or A ]
of considerable rhythmic interest

5) sporadic sounds of your favourite animals
otherwise pedal low G, D or E

6) pointilistic pianissimo staccatostratus
à la bouncing superball
as a prelude to rapid repeated descent
sempre pp

7) eventually arriving
proudly and triumphantly
at a delicate triad (concert D)
repeated diminuendo and crescendo
