Charliesax > Charlie's New Orleans Jazz Band - New Orleans & Trad Jazz

We take tunes by Louis Armstrong, Sydney Bechet, Kenny Ball, Acker Bill, Fats Waller and various other Trad and New Orleans bands and play them in our own inimitable way.

Its a fun repertoire and people may recognise a lot of the tunes because they have been extensively used on television and radio over the years.

The Trad Jazz revival took Britain by storm early in the 1960s and led to the formation of such great bands as Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen, Mr Acker Bilk & His Paramount Jazz Band & Humphrey Lyttleton.

Their music took a fresh look at early 20th century New Orleans jazz tunes, added some of it's own and used contemporary popular tunes too.

In the early sixties trad musicians dressed up in weird stagewear such as cowboy and indians outfits, cavaliers etc but nowadays this has mostly calmed down to a uniform of black trousers, and matching coloured shirts and waistcoats. Stripey blazer and straw boater is another good one.
