what the critics say...
"A lost little gem from the British scene of the late 80s -- featuring altoist Charlie Hearnshaw playing with a crackling intensity we really love! The set steps along with a clean and simple groove -- none of the retro-funk of the acid jazz years, and instead a straightforward sound that's got echoes of older alto work, but a spirited approach to the groove that's all its own! Charlie plays in a highly rhythmic way that might be more common for a tenorist -- leaping around with the piano-driven lines of the set nicely, hitting notes on the groove that sparkle with color and light. And while the album's not exactly funky, there's a definite appeal to fans of jazz dance-oriented material -- even more appealing given that all the tunes are originals!" www.dustygroove.com
